General information about the military department of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics

The Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics occupies a leading place in the national education system and specialises in training engineers and science workers.
Since 2004, the university has been educating officers for the Belarusian Armed Forces and other uniformed departments, offering speciality in multichannel telecommunications systems with major in special telecommunication systems and giving its alumni the qualification of a telecommunications engineer.
The course of studies is 5 years long and every graduate gets the military rank of lieutenant.
Study at the military department is free of charge for all the cadets, moreover they are fully supported by the state in such issues as housing, ration, clothing and money allowances.
The term of service in the Armed Forces or other uniformed departments begins since the moment a cadet joins the university.
Having passed a course of initial military training in August, the cadets take the oath of enlistment and become service member with all the relevant rights.
Cadets in their 1st and 2nd year live in the barracks and those in the 3rd, 4th and 5th year are housed at a hostel. Two times a year (in winter and summer) the cadets get 14 and 30 days of holidays.
The alumni of the military department continue service in the Armed Forces and other uniformed department on the positions intended for commissioned officers.
In the course of studies the cadets gain the knowledge and skills allowing them to fulfil themselves in the development and operation of various-purpose communications equipment, including military systems. They will be welcome in signal troops, at companies dealing with communications systems, research and development agencies and computation centres - at every place where telecommunications equipment is being developed, produced, maintained or operated.
Special classrooms of the military department are equipped with the military systems that the future signal officers are supposed to know. In addition, the department has a computer classroom, a library with a good collection technical and special literature. Electronic versions of books and computer tests facilitate the education process, allowing the cadets to study in the computer classroom and check their results their.
Besides lessons in the university, the cadets pass training in Belarusian military units, where they obtain the skills of conducting a battle, employing communication systems and other equipment in service with radiotechnical troops.
The university has a corporate computer network, educational web-site and electronic library and allows access to the Internet.
An important place in educating future officers is occupied by physical training. The university has good sporting facilities, including a swimming pool, and offers various sports classes. On weekends, cadets can play football, volleyball, basketball and table tennis.
The present cadets do their best to succeed in their studies, master modern sophisticated materiel, form their outlook and observe military discipline in order to become not only highly professional officers, but also patriots, people with certain views and a firm civic stand, realising their importance for the fortune of our country.
